This year our team competed in the 2013 FIRST Robotics Competition here in the Greater Kansas City Regional. We were very grateful to any and all mentors who were able to make this a wonderful year. This year our team was composed of a total of 25 kids and 13 mentors. Our Drive Team was composed of Senior Charlie Schmidt, Junior Philip Ruo, and Sophomore Denzel Richmond. We had a great time at competition, and we look forward to building bigger and better robots in the years to come!
Thursday, March 14
On the first day of competition many practice schedules were scheduled for all teams. This gave us an opportunity to practice with our robots out on the field before points were actually counted. In the beginning of the day, we found a few flaws in our robot and it was struggling with passing inspection. Once those problems were solved, we were able to continue on fixing our robots pneumatics before competing. Towards the later part of the day, our robot was able to physically compete in some of the practice rounds as well as other robots at competition.
Friday, March 15
Starting the qualification rounds, March 15 began the more serious parts of competition. We began scouting with our own team-made scouting sheets. This part of competition is vital to our team's success because it gives the drivers an idea of who they are up against when it comes to the final rounds. On Friday we won more matches than we lost leaving us with a final standing of 21st place.
Saturday, March 16
In the morning, we finished the rest of our qualification rounds before picking alliances. By the time alliance choices began, we had managed to bring our standing up to 13th place which benefitted us in the long run. Fortunately we were chosen by the eighth seat in the competition and we were able to participate in the Final rounds. However, because our standing in eighth place we were put up against the first seat in our beginning two rounds. In the first seat sat Team Titanium (robotics team number 1986). So far, they had already won the Hub City Regional and ended up winning the Greater Kansas City Regional. When we lost, we lost to them in the quarter-finals. Overall, we gave it the best we had given our season's efforts.
